Creative Writing Poem: The Rotting City

Alright, I know this isn't the greatest poem anyone has ever heard. But I didn't think it was the worst poem I have ever done. We were given a choice between four different landscapes to write a poem about. We had to use all five of the senses at least once in the poem and had to be fifteen lines. I chose to write about the city, so here it is. It has no title except "Scenic Imagery Poem," so, sorry.

Cars drive down the streets in a rushed manner
Honking their horns at the cars passing by
The loud noises can be heard for miles
and rattle shops and homes nearby

The buildings look miles high up in the sky
They surround every street like predators and their prey
Sun light shines between them
Illuminating the city in a golden glow

The city smells like its rotting away
Like no one is living in it
Yet there are people on every corner
Living their lives day to day in the rotting city

When you open your mouth to breathe
The taste of the rotting city fills your mouth
with an undesirable and putrid taste
It soaked into my taste buds like it was never going to leave

Sitting on the bench felt cold
Cold like a fresh blanket of snow
on the ground on a mid December day
in the rotting city.
